Deadly Beauty: Grocery store flowers are more toxic than you think!

“Friendly Flowers” are all the buzz at our Oasis
Botanica demonstration garden in Mack,
Colorado.  Did you know that since flowers are not meant
to be eaten, the laws that control toxic chemicals do not apply?!  Not only does that put hidden toxins in your
home, it also contributes to a world-wide industry that damages the health of
thousands of workers.  We grow our own at
Oasis Botanica.  We don’t want toxins in
our home or in yours.

Even without chemical sprays, some popular cut flowers are naturally toxic plants.  Beautiful blue aconite is a good example.  This popular bloom could be deadly if your toddler decides to eat the bouquet.

Our eyes were opened by two excellent books from a most engaging writer, Amy Stewart.  We highly recommend:

Flower Confidential: The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful in the Business of Flowers

Wicked Plants: The Weed that Killed Lincoln's Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities

To quote Ms. Stewart, "Consider yourself warned!"
